LESSON 2 · PLATFORM

What is
MetaTrader 5?

MetaTrader 5 — usually called MT5 — is trading software used to view markets, connect to a broker account, open/close positions and run automated programs called Expert Advisors.

The five things a beginner needs to know

MT5 areaWhat it means
Trading accountYour broker login. It can be demo or live.
Market WatchThe list of symbols available from your broker, such as XAUUSD or EURUSD.
ChartA visual history of price. CrownX does not require you to manually analyze every candle.
NavigatorWhere installed Expert Advisors appear.
Algo TradingThe MT5 permission that allows an EA such as CrownX to trade automatically.

Demo vs live

A demo account uses simulated funds. A live account uses real money. The platform may look almost identical, which makes demo useful for learning the workflow first.

Do you need to keep MT5 open?

An EA runs inside the MT5 terminal. If the computer or VPS running MT5 is offline, the EA cannot continue executing from that terminal. Many automated traders use a VPS so MT5 can stay online continuously during market hours.

Why can symbols look different?

One broker might use XAUUSD, another may use XAUUSDm or another suffix. The same can happen with index symbols. Compatibility and symbol mapping matter when configuring automated software.

You do not need to become a chart expert to install CrownX. You do need to understand which account is connected, whether it is demo or live, which symbol the robot is intended for, and whether automated trading is enabled.
